A warm welcome to you from the Ratcliffe Chorale.

For over 30 years members of the Ratcliffe Chorale have enjoyed singing together whilst helping to raise money for a variety of charities.  We don't charge for performing so if there is an event that you are organising and at which you would like us to sing - please get in touch using the form on the contact page of this website.

We sing a variety of music - songs from popular musicals, gospel tunes, sacred music, pop songs and Christmas carols.  We also tackle longer works such as Vivaldi's Gloria , Stainer's Crucifixion and Bach's Magnificat. The main aim is to enjoy our singing.

The Chorale meets for rehearsals, at Syston Methodist Church, on Monday evenings, from 7:00pm to 8.45pm. For more information see the Rehearsals section or please get in touch using the Contact Section of this site.

Our Musical Director is Simon Lubkowski. He is an accomplished choral director, having formed The Lancaster Community Choir (now called The Knighton Community Choir) when he took over as Head of Music at Lancaster Boys School, just after the Gareth Malone TV show ‘The Choir – Boys Don’t Sing’ had been filmed and aired.  He has also formed an award winning School Choir at Lutterworth College in Leicestershire, formed the auditioned A Cappella ensemble Lux A Cappella, is a founding members of the 2018 UK National Champion Barbershop Quartet ‘The Locksmiths’, and is the founder of the worldwide virtual choir “The Collective”, which has had more than 3000 singers from over 50 countries take part in 20 songs since the Covid pandemic.

He is currently training to be a Singing Judge for the British Association of Barbershop Singers, and coaches Choirs, Quartets, Groups and Choruses around the UK.

Paul began his musical training on the piano aged 5 and worked his way through the ABRSM examinations to grade 8 while at school. He began playing the organ in his teens, taking lessons with Martin Singleton at Chester Cathedral and, while at university, with Richard Lloyd at Durham Cathedral, where he obtained his ARCO. He has been organist at Groby Parish Church since 1987. In his early 40’s, he began piano lessons again with Marlene Fleet in Leicester, and was awarded his DipABRSM

Paul enjoys making music with other musicians and has accompanied many young people in their music exams and ‘A’ levels. He is the principal accompanist for ‘Groby Sings’ community choir and has recently joined ‘Ratcliffe Chorale’ as their accompanist. Paul enjoys composing and arranging music of all kinds, mainly for ‘Groby Sings’ but also for his own pleasure and amusement.  During lockdown he found time to write a symphony.
